When it comes to excellence in theatre, there are no borders

The League of Professional Theater Women established an International Award in 2011 honoring playwright and director Odile Gakire Katese from Rwanda as the inaugural recipient. Named after two legendary women in the theatre, Rosamond Gilder and Martha Coigney the Award is presented every three years and acknowledges the exceptional work of theatre women around the world.

We are pleased to announce that Patricia Ariza of Colombia, South America, will be presented with the 2014 Gilder/Coigney International Theatre Award at the Martin E. Segal Theatre Center/CUNY on October 27, 2014.

The Award includes a cash prize of $1,000 plus travel expenses to New York City for the recipient to be honored. A series of special events surround the award ceremony to showcase the winner’s work, and provide artistic and professional networking opportunities. Once nominees have been submitted for consideration by League members at large, the Committee selects the Awardee based on the following criteria: artistic excellence in the field of theatre; work that has a visible impact in the home country and abroad; the ability to inspire and educate across cultures; clear support of women’s work and issues.
